A Brief History of Holy Apostles
A BRIEF HISTORY
of
Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church of Indianapolis
- January 2006 The Genesis Orthodox Group (GOG) was formed with the purpose of starting a New Greek Orthodox church in central Indianapolis.
- January 2008 His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit notified us that the Genesis Orthodox Group had become the official Ad Hoc Committee, whose purpose was to prepare information needed to become a church.
- February 2009 The GOG received notification that our request to organize a new parish had been granted.
- April 7, 2009 The Interim Board was installed by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, and the charter was granted to Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church of Indianapolis
- April 2009 A lease with Northwood Christian Church was signed to rent the use of their chapel and office space to hold our services, at 4550 North Central Avenue.
- May 10, 2009 We held our first liturgy and had services every other week.
- April 2010 Father John Koen became the priest with the approval from the Detroit and Bulgarian Dioceses.
- September 2013 Weekly Sunday Divine Liturgy begins!
